The information you are viewing below was posted to the Cycling Advocates of Nipissing Facebook Group.  This page is a work in progress!

So it looks like we have a committee to plan a Bike2Work Challenge for the month of June. We will meet on February 20th at 5:30 at Twiggs on Worthington if that works for everybody. See you there! ...

Your input is requested as North Bay finalizes an important cycling link in the City’s recreational trails network, specifically the missing link in the Kate Pace Way between Memorial Drive and Gormanville Road in North Bay. A Public Information Centre is scheduled for February 27 as per attached notice. It is important that the City understands the importance of this linkage to the trails community, from a variety of perspectives. So, if you are unable to participate in person, please provide your comments to the consultant or to Discovery Routes and I will ensure that they are included.

Please circulate the notice to your networks.

Bike/Walk2Work Challenge

What are your thoughts on having employers compete in the month of June 2018 where they will log the number of kilometres biked or walked to work per employee. The employer will get positive coverage through the local media for their efforts on Climate Change. Whaddayathink?

Something that I have been pursuing for a while now is getting a bike share program established in North Bay. In the past there had not been support from the City due to cost and maintenance issues. However, I think the timing may be right to pursue this for this coming cycling season. So many visitors arrive at our waterfront and discover the Kate Pace Way but have no bikes to go for a ride. The convenience of a bike share program would provide added value at the waterfront. I am in discussions with two different companies with very different business models and I am looking to you to provide your opinions. Company 1 is more a traditional model where the proponent buys the bikes and bike stations outright and then uses a mobile app to operate the bike share and charges a fee for use. Company 2 provides all the bikesfor free and has a unique system that does not require a formal bike station and everything is controlled by a phone app. However, all revenues generated go to Company 2 with no opportunity to generate revenue.

Just to give you an idea of the cost...a small bike share program with a bike station at either end of the Kate Pace Way with 12 bikes costs around $20,000 initially.

Let me know what model you prefer and why.

Again this is not directly related to cycling but I think it is worthwhile and our membership may be interested. It will lead to a direction setting meeting with Transition Town North Bay where Active Transportation is definitely on the Agenda. ...
