Cycle Safe Critical Mass Ride - Freeee food!

June 25, 2017, 10:00am - June 25, 2017, 11:00am

MARK your Calendars! FREE ride and FOOD! As the cycling season is in full swing, we are organizing a large critical mass ride Sunday, June 25th. Like we had done two summers ago, we will be departing from Cycleworks at 10am, with a controlled pace down Main St, to the waterfront and to Callander following the usual group ride route. There will be refreshments for riders supplied in Astorville at Bernard Rochefort Ltd. parking lot by the awesome North Star Travelling Café! We hope to also provide some imaging of the day as in past years. PLEASE share this event info with family and friends, and let’s have a great turn out to promote safe cycling in our communities! This ride is to help build awareness and improve cycling conditions for all riders! A donation box will be available at the pit stop for any riders wanting to help continue the cyclesafe campaign! -See map for pit stop information! -See the North Star's Instagram page for a sneak peak of what to expect! www.instagram.com/thenorthstartravellingcafe/?hl=en

This is not new but it is incredibly relevant when we think about our own city and the pattern and system of development that we currently employ and continue to support. If you have some time, have a listen to Chuck Marohn from Strong Towns. To put this into perspective, the City of Sudbury recently took a hard look at their road assets and what resources they will require to keep them operational. The current lifespan of a road surface in Sudbury is 15-20 years at best. With the current funding and tax system the life cycle replacement of the roads in Sudbury is about 82 years!!! This means the infrastructure will continue to crumble unless there is a massive tax increase (2-3 times the current rates) or a completely new approach to how we develop. North Bay is not dissimilar. Food for thought!
