A great place to live, is a great place to visit
The Outdoor Adventure Industry Resource Guide by Discovery Routes is an initiative to assist the growth of non-motorized outdoor adventure tourism in Ontario’s Near North, aiming to raise awareness, foster collaboration, provide resources and recommendations and support local economic growth.
The guide emphasizes that “a great place to live is a great place to visit” pointing to the important recognition that all stakeholders are part of a trails tourism ecosystem responsible for supporting and stewarding a resilient outdoor adventure community that will attract both locals and visitors.
Developed over three months in the fall of 2023 through local consultations, interviews, and surveys, the guide provides:
- an overview of the current state of non-motorized outdoor adventure tourism from a local perspective enhanced with current tourism data,
- an outdoor adventurer profile with activity specific details covering cycling, paddling, hiking and winter sports, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking,
- spotlights of local operators highlighting innovative products and services,
- recommendations for all stakeholder levels addressing gaps and opportunities,
- and, resources like the new Outdoor Adventure Industry Directory, links to market-ready local assets, and regional marketing and business development supports.
