Job Posting: Student Trail Programs Assistant – two positions available

Eligibility: The project is part of the Government of Canada’s summer employment program known as Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* [S.C. 2001, c. 27]; and,
  • be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent resident.

Job Description:  The student Trail Programs Assistant works under the supervision of Discovery Routes’ Executive Director. The individual will assist with the coordination and delivery of the ReCycle Bikes donation program and other trail activities throughout the summer.

Tasks that the student will be involved with include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the collection and distribution of donated bicycles;
  • Outreach to community partners involved in trails;
  • Research and interpretation of stories of local trails and trail volunteers;
  • Assisting in promotion of trails for hiking, paddling and cycling through social media and other online platforms;
  • Other duties as assigned.

The position will involve a combination of administration and research (eg desk work) and hands-on physical work.

Wage:  $16.55/ hour based on a 28-hour work week for 10 weeks or equivalent total hours commencing in late May 2024. If the student is enrolled in high school full-time, a reduced schedule may be possible for the months of May/June.

Location: The student will be required to work varying schedules at two locations:  Discovery Routes office at 205 Main Street East in North Bay and the Laurentian Ski Hill Lower Lodge on Ski Club Road in North Bay.
